The DLWTRAIL Campaign is about exploring the possibility of a traffic free "active travel" trail between the two villages of the Parish of Long Whatton & Diseworth. It's about creating something more friendly (and less dangerous) to pedestrians / cyclists / wheelchair users / horse riders than the current road linking our two villages.

The stretch of road (The Green) which links our two villages from the Ladygate junction at Diseworth to the M1 bridge at Long Whatton is only safely usable by motor vehicles. It has no footpath and a 60mph national speed limit. The combination of traffic speed and blind bends makes non-motorists feel very vulnerable, as evidenced by statements from local residents in our Dossier of Demand.

The existing road does more to divide the two villages than it does to connect them.
DLWTRAIL seeks to restore the simple community connection between our villages, by making local travel safer, healthier and more enjoyable.

This is an idea being floated by a group of residents in both villages.
It's enthusiastically supported by Long Whatton & Diseworth Parish Council.
Can we turn it into reality?

Our first task in 2019 was to estimate demand - there would be no point in pushing for this if nobody wanted it! We floated the idea with articles in the Long Whatton News and Diseworth Dialogue village magazines, together with a leaflet drop. We invited residents to submit (via email, both village magazines, and our facebook campaign group) a simple "Statement of Support" explaining why such an initiative would be beneficial. We asked "What advantages might this might bring to our families, our friends and our communities?".
As a result, we have compiled our Dossier of Demand which currently has statements of support from 130 residents in both villages. We also have an active facebook group with over 250 supportive members. The demand is clearly there.
