What's an LCWIP? Please read on ... In partnership with our Parish Council, your DLWTRAIL campaign group has been persistently pressing for better, safer, active travel provision in our Parish.

We're pleased to report that our voice has been heard, and that improved safe passage for active travellers between and around our two villages has now been included in the NW Leics LCWIP (Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan). You can see the draft LCWIP here: Click here to read NWLDC's LCWIP It's a long document ... scroll to pages 35 & 36 for the parts that relate to Long Whatton & Diseworth.

We still need to keep pressing! Simply being included in the LCWIP does not grant us priority treatment. We are competing with many other local initiatives for scarce funding and resources. Sure, being included in the LCWIP is a reason to celebrate. But it's just the beginning of our real push to get the job done. YOU can assist by helping us to MAKE MORE NOISE! If you're on facebook, please join our group and tell us what you think. How would improved, safer facilities for walking, cycling, wheeling and walking around and between our villages help YOU and your family? www.facebook.com/groups/DLWTRAIL Thanks to all Diseworth & Long Whatton residents who have backed our cause, and helped us to get this far. ONWARD AND UPWARD! Happy walking, cycling, wheeling and riding 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚵‍♀️🚵‍♂️🚲👨‍🦽👩‍🦼🐴🐴

Continued encouraging news about taking active travel seriously in the UK : "Active Travel England" headed by Chris Boardman Click the link at the end of this post. . Our DLWTRAIL campaign is a small cog in a big machine which is gaining traction. We're actually seeing the creation of a Government Department which supports our aims. We're one of many small groups across the country whose voice is finally being heard. . If we stick with this, we can fight 50 years of misguided "Car Is King" transport planning, fight climate change, and improve health and well-being for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. And we can do it all whilst putting a smile on people's faces and building a more cohesive parish community. . Want a true Win-Win? Get behind ACTIVE TRAVEL FOR LOCAL TRIPS. Thank you to all our supporters. https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/chris-boardman-heads-active-travel-england?fbclid=IwAR3vZNDHntq0pGGfUCHiKYsm-ROqf9Um2ehFAp6giOSs6ydgrY9-M5-hLT8
