As a result of solid support from Long Whatton & Diseworth Parish Council, your DLWTRAIL Committee is pleased to announce that Leicestershire County Council has installed "No Footway" signage covering the entire length of The Green between our two villages. This communicates to drivers that they should expect to see pedestrians and other vulnerable users on the carriageway, and that it is the driver's duty of care to defer to them and give them space. Of course, our DLWTRAIL Campaign's long-term goal is a wider solution than just signage. But these signs chime with a significant forthcoming overhaul of the Highway Code which puts the onus on those in charge of vehicles capable of doing the most damage to have a clear duty of care towards more vulnerable road users. This is a step along the way. Thank you to EVERYBODY who has voiced support for our DLWTRAIL campaign - it's YOUR voices of support which have helped to move forward ... even in relatively modest steps. We continue to campaign on all issues affecting the safety of active travellers on the main route connecting Diseworth & Long Whatton. Your DLWTRAIL committee, together with the Parish Council, continues to build alliances and raise the profile of our campaign for safe active travel between our villages. A significant part of our campaign is to demonstrate strong, continued support for what we're trying to achieve. This is absolutely vital if we're to have any hope of raising our profile further and securing funding for our objectives. WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW! PLEASE demonstrate your support by completing the Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire. In particular, your answers to questions 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 & 28 could be particularly influential as they SPECIFICALLY relate to active travel as a link between the villages. You can help our cause further by encouraging all members of your household, and your neighbours, to do the same. Here's a link to the questionnaire website: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/LongWhattonDiseworthNP Alternatively, for those who aren't online, every household in both villages should have received a paper copy of the questionnaire. For those who prefer to complete the survey on a mobile device, there's a QR code on Page 2 of the survey. THANK FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

On behalf of your DLWTRAIL Campaign:

HAPPY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND, EVERYBODY!

This Sunday is "WORLD'S BIGGEST BIKE RIDE".

Promoted by Cycling UK, it's very simple.

On Sunday, just ride a bike.

Anywhere.

No matter how far or how long.

How about cycling along The Green to visit the other village, and spend some time in the garden of one (or more) of our three lovely pubs?

Cycle around Diseworth and spot the scarecrows?

Cycle to Long Whatton Village Shop for a coffee and a snack? Or chill in the Millennium Meadow?

Or just cycle for the sheer pleasure of hearing the birds sing and feeling the breeze on your face!

Cycling is one of the best ways to get outside whilst maintaining social distancing.

How is this relevant to our DLWTRAIL campaign?

It demonstrates to others that active travel is fun, and that leaving the car at home and cycling, walking, wheeling and riding is good for both mental and physical health. It raises the visibility of active travel.

🚶‍♀️‍🦼🏃‍♀️‍👩‍🦯

So, let's get out on our bikes on Sunday, take a leisurely ride around and between Long Whatton & Diseworth, and exchange waves and smiles along the way!
