As a result of solid support from Long Whatton & Diseworth Parish Council, your DLWTRAIL Committee is pleased to announce that Leicestershire County Council has installed "No Footway" signage covering the entire length of The Green between our two villages. This communicates to drivers that they should expect to see pedestrians and other vulnerable users on the carriageway, and that it is the driver's duty of care to defer to them and give them space.
Of course, our DLWTRAIL Campaign's long-term goal is a wider solution than just signage.
But these signs chime with a significant forthcoming overhaul of the Highway Code which puts the onus on those in charge of vehicles capable of doing the most damage to have a clear duty of care towards more vulnerable road users.
This is a step along the way.
Thank you to EVERYBODY who has voiced support for our DLWTRAIL campaign - it's YOUR voices of support which have helped to move forward ... even in relatively modest steps.
We continue to campaign on all issues affecting the safety of active travellers on the main route connecting Diseworth & Long Whatton.
